Some 2,000 miles from Georgia, the trail ends here.
Baxter Peak on Katahdin, Maine's highest mountain, is the northern end of the Appalachian Trail. The Penobscot name means "Great Mountain," and for every northbound thru-hiker it's the last climb. This flat, screen-print style poster shows Katahdin from the south at sunset: the long shoulder rising to Baxter Peak, the jagged Knife Edge running out to Pamola in shadow, a still pond below, and a spruce in the foreground carrying the trail's white blaze. THE END, in bold black letters, says the rest.
Printed in ink black, navy, ocean blue, sky blue, gold, dusty rose and spruce greens on a cream ground, it's made for thru-hikers and section hikers, Baxter State Park fans, cabins and camps in the North Woods, and anyone who has ever finished something hard. Part of our Maine poster series. Each design is a pun with a true story behind it.
